Director, Folklorico Jaguar

Last summer Grupo Folklórico Jaguar received an invitation to perform in the 39th Annual Conference of Association Nacional de Grupos Folkloricos (ANGF) at the Selena Auditorium in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Grupo Folklórico Jaguar was among the top ten groups selected from the state of Texas to be showcase at the national convention.  The group was chosen for their level of professionalism that they always demonstrated in all their performances and competitions.  The group has always respected and has taken great care in executing all their traditional Cuadros of Mexico.

Grupo Folklórico Jaguar shared the stage that evening with Compañia Folklórica Alegria Mexicana under the direction of Isidro Salas, Roy Lozano’s Ballet Folklórico de Texas under the direction of Chuy Chacon, and Ballet Folklórico Paso del Norte under the direction of Rodolfo Hernandez.  The group received high praises from all these directors and fellow dancers.  Most could not believe that Grupo Folklórico Jaguar was indeed a high school group.  The group was recognized and received a certificate for their participation in the event.

ANGF is an international organization that preserves and promotes the Mexican culture and traditions.  Every year the organization invites and unites some of Mexico’s finest and most knowledgeable dance professional.  These teachers have done investigations and research in the Mexican Dance and Folklore bringing us music, dances, and traditions that they present to the ANGF membership.   One compliment that the group received by some of these authorities was that “Michoacán Niche de Metros” is very traditional and that is rarely seen in Mexico today any dance groups.  They were amazed how Grupo Folklórico Jaguar had captured and transmitted the essence of its meaning.

Once again, Grupo Folklórico Jaguar has represented our school, school district, city, and state in the best possible way. Mr. Rodrigo Leal director of Grupo Folklórico Jaguar said: “Is not easy to get to this level of expertise and is even harder to maintain it, thanks to the students dedication, commitment, and discipline and the support of their parents and administration that this has been possible”.  Way to go Grupo Folklórico Jaguar you make us very proud.
