Mrs. Gloria Rivera, the fourth of six children, migrated with her parents to Deckerville, Michigan to work in agriculture picking cherries. She also worked in a radish packing shed. In Texas, Mrs. Rivera picked cotton, tomatoes and cucumbers. Mrs. Rivera graduated from Alice High School and obtained a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degree in Education from Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas. She received a Master of Arts degree in Bilingual Education and a Mid-Management certification in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas in 1978. Ms. Rivera also attained her superintendent’s certificate from Texas A & M University in Kingsville, Texas in 2004 and has over 30 hours towards her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership.

Mrs. Rivera has served as a consultant for Region One Education Service Center and has worked in the capacity of elementary supervisor, bilingual director, assistant principal and principal. She also served as a national educational consultant, regional sales director for a technology publishing company and conducted many seminars and conferences for teachers and administrators at the local, state, national and international levels. Her passion is educational leadership of the limited English proficient, the at-risk and the migrant student.

Currently, Mrs. Rivera is principal at Johnny G. Economedes High School, and we welcome her aboard to our wonderful school. We wish Mrs. Gloria Rivera a great 2008-2009 school year!
