ECHS/T-STEM Director's Message

      As the new Director of the Early College / T-STEM High School at Economedes, I welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year!  It is my sincere pleasure and honor to join this remarkable and diverse school community. I am anticipating a successful and rewarding school year, and I look forward to collaborating with the dedicated staff, parents and community to provide an exceptional educational experience for ECHS/T-STEM students. The ECHS/T-STEM program has a short, but rich history of excellence due to the high level of academic achievement, which is a direct result of the commitment of the school’s staff and parents who provide a diverse experiences for our students. The goal is to provide an enriching, engaging, and challenging curriculum that will prepare students for success. I firmly believe that students, parents, and teachers all play a vital role in helping students reach their greatest potential. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the many resources and opportunities available to them including the library, computer labs, school spirit days, student council, after school academic and athletic offerings.  Parents have access to view the academic progress regularly via our Skyward parent portal. The community participates in the different school events that are posted on the school’s website. At Economedes, we do not take lightly our responsibility in ensuring your children experience a highly-engaging educational experience in a safe and nurturing environment. I thank you for entrusting your children to the ECHS/T-STEM staff. I am truly honored to be appointed to this position and to continue to offer the a rigorous educational program for our students. Those who know me know that I have an open door policy, and I welcome your questions, concerns, and comments at any time.

Mission Statement: 

Economedes T-STEM Early College will empower students to think critically, reflectively and apply their knowledge and skills to a greater context.  T-STEM students will experience unique opportunities through T-STEM education with rigorous and relevant hands on investigations, through project-based instruction, highly integrated curriculum and relationships with the school community, higher education, technical and business partners.

Juan Saavedra, ECHS/T-STEM Director

 Mr. Juan Saavedra is the Director of ECHS/T-STEM at Economedes. He has been part of the administrative team for the past 10 years.  He received a Master's degree from the University of Texas-Pan American and undergraduate degree in Mathematics from St. Edward's  University in Austin, Texas. His expertise and experience with the school's dynamics make him a valuable and key component in promoting a rigorous and a college going culture.
