Martin Aguayo, Jr.

The foundation of who we are in life may start with our humble beginnings, but it is our actions in life that truly define us.  The inspiration and driving force behind why I chose this career in education is changing the lives of my students.  I share a very similar background to the majority of my students; I grew up in a low income-migrant family. My parents had to work at an early age and never had the opportunity to finish school, so for my siblings and me pursing a quality education became their ultimate goal. With their support I was the first in my family to not only graduate high school but also receive a college degree. I am truly blessed for being part of the Early College Staff at Economedes High School, not only being surrounded by the best teachers on campus but by the young minds we are privileged to be entrusted with,  especially the amazing students that are in my World History AP classes.  My goals for all my classes are to not only challenge my students with AP content and rigor, but to be able to impart my knowledge and life experiences to my students in order to prepare them as they endeavor to pursue a college education and eventually an  illustrious professional career. I believe I can speak for everyone on the JEHS Early College staff that being here and helping to change the lives of our Early College students is the defining reason why we as educators feel blessed every day, and this can be stated best by Sir Francis Drake’s motto, “Sic Parvis Magna” Greatness from small beginnings…
