Grupo Folklórico Jaguar ends year in style

Grupo Folklórico Jaguar from Johnny Economedes High School had a stellar competition season during the Spring semester 2015.  1) They participated in the 2nd Annual Competencia Folklórica del Colegio del Sur de Tejas on March 29, 2015 sponsored by South Texas College and the Center for the Mexican American Studies.  The group participated with four entries:  Ensemble, Small Group, Large Group, and Cuadro Categories.  The group received all 1st place trophies for each entry.  They were also awarded Best Small Group Entry Award and Best Large Group Entry Award in the entire competition.  2) Also, they competed in the 3rd Annual ACADEZ National Folklórico/Contemporary Dance Competition 2015 in San Antonio on April 17-18, 2015.  Grupo Folklórico Jaguar competed with ten entries and placed in 6.  They also received Best Costume Overall ACADEZ 2015 and “Best of the Best” ACADEZ 2015.  For these awards, 44 private and public middle and high schools competed together.  Groups traveled from California, New Mexico, Illinois, and Mexico to join other Texas groups, including 8 valley high schools.  For the 2nd year in a row, Grupo Folklórico Jaguar has been awarded the title of National Champions by ACADEZ.  The Jaguar folkloric team would like to thank all of their supporters, including administrators, faculty, staff, and parents.  Picture are members of Grupo Folklórico Jaguar, along with Mr. Mark Gordon – JEHS Asst.
